Mangalore, Mukka, Jun 6, 2022: World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated annually on June 5 all over the globe. It was also celebrated in Srinivas University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Mukka on June 4. It was organized by Association of Computer Engineers (ACE) under the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
Each World Environment Day is organized around a theme that draws attention to a particularly pressing environmental concern. The theme for 2022 was NURTURE THE NATURE.
Shuba S (iOS Engineer, Kami vision India pvt ltd) and Udaya M (Entrepreneur and Agriculturist) were the chief guests of the event. Event was inaugurated by planting saplings in the college campus.
The event was witnessed by Dr Thomas Pinto (dean, SUIET), Dr Ramakrishna Hegde (vice principal, HoD Civil Engg), Shifana Begum (HoD, CSE), Akhilraj V Gadagkar (ACE coordinator), Swarna H R (faculty coordinator) other staffs and students.
There were lots of crowds as many people gathered to be a part of the program. The objective of this program is to spread awareness among people about saving our environment and to plant more and more trees to make our mother earth full of greenery.
The event was continued by a formal function in the college auditorium. The president of ACE, Sushanth Shetty welcomed the gathering. This was followed with a formal inauguration of the event by the dignitaries present on the stage. Sannidhi S Shetty, fourth sem CSE, introduced the chief guests.
Chief guest and speaker of the program gave a very good and well-researched speech about how the condition of our environment today is and why we need to be aware. The guest also tells us what steps should be taken immediately so that we can make our environment healthy. A promise was taken from all the students that no one will pollute the environment and will not allow anyone to do so. The participants were admonished not to focus on only what they can get from the environment, but more so on what they can do to make the environment better than they met it. Also went ahead to charge the participants to care for their environment noting that “Treating the environment badly will mean destroying the source of human existence”.
Dr Thomas Pinto (dean, SUIET) in his opening remarks, also took turn to encourage participants to be environmentally friendly, giving highlights on the importance of the World Environment Day celebration and the need for a holistic thinking while relating with the environment.
Thereafter, Dr Ramakrishna Hegde addressed and wished the students. Followed by a talk on 'Farming with latest Technologies'. The chief guest Shubha S gave the presentation giving vital information about farming and all the participants had a look on their farm virtually and the emerging technologies that was used in the farm, types of vegetables, fruits and flowers that was grown depending on the season. A wide information about how to look after those saplings was delivered.
Savan Shetty, vice president, ACE proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Shreeja Shetty of 4th sem CSE. The event was managed by Prajnesh Poojary, secretary ACE, Vaishnavi B, joint secretary ACE, Bhoomika Wodeyar, treasurer ACE along with many student volunteers. Overall the event was great success with everyone’s effects, and has certainly made a difference to the way people view our environment.
